Local Ordinances

Keeping of Honey bees

Due to changes in the Right to Farm Act, cities and townships now have the right to limit or deny certain 'livestock' within their community boundaries. (This page is still under construction and may not have your city or township.)  If you plan on using your bees as a means of livelihood, then you would be considered a farmer and would follow the Farm Act GAMPS laws.

City of Bay City

Bay City allows 2 hives on each property so long as other standards are kept and a permit is processed.

City of Midland

Bees are considered a farm animal under their Rules of Construction and Definitions.  This means your property must be zoned Agriculture in order to keep bees.

City of Saginaw

Currently, there are no rules regarding beekeeping in the City of Saginaw.
